The revival of Golda Meir

At last, the pioneering Israeli grandmother, Golda Meir, is experiencing a well-earned revival. Last month it was announced that the Oscar-winning Israeli director Guy Nativ is working on a new film about the Former Israeli Prime Minister (3rd woman in the world), Golda, who will be played by Oscar award-winning actress Helen Mirren.

Another formidable sounding project is a television series about the influential leader produced by Barbara Streisand, and starring actress Shira Haas, “Unorthodox.” The series, titled Lioness is based on Francine Klagsbrun’s biography of Golda Meir—a thick and thorough study. It will focus on the former Israeli Prime Minister’s role during the Yom Kippur War, a devastating surprise attack that left Israel and Golda spinning. Ultimately, although she was officially held blameless for being unprepared, Golda never forgave herself. She resigned shortly after.
