Bravery is not the absence of fear. Bravery runs alongside fear with a deep determined breath.

-All of us today.

About this photo:

Chanukah 1932

“It was on a Friday right before Shabbat that this photo was taken. The Posner Family photographer realized that this was a historic photo, and wrote on the back: “Chanukah, 5692. ‘Judea dies,’ thus says the banner. ‘Judea will live forever,’ thus respond the lights.”

Today, both the Posner family’s menorah and the photograph are on permanent display in Yad Vashem, The World Holocaust Center, in Jerusalem, Israel. But each year, the menorah is returned to the family for one week when the family’s descendants continue to light the Hanukkah candles using the same menorah that was brought to Israel from Kiel almost 90 years ago. Shalom.

The consistent mistake of 1930s Germany was people refusing to believe what was happening

Challenges to freedom will never end. Neither will fear. Neither will courage. These forces are always around us. So reach for the one you can live with.
Shalom and have a meaningful Hanukkah.
